Adult Drone

An adult drone is the male member of a honeybee colony. Its main role is to mate with a queen bee during the mating flight. Unlike worker bees, adult drones do not collect nectar or pollen. They are usually larger than worker bees but smaller than the queen. Drones have big eyes that help them locate the queen while flying. They do not have stingers, so they cannot defend the hive. Adult drones are cared for and fed by worker bees in the colony. Their life is mainly focused on reproduction and supporting the survival of the species. When resources become scarce, drones are often driven out of the hive by worker bees.
